Stress is a mental or emotional strain caused by anxiety or work overload. It speeds up one’s heart and breathing. Some stress is normal and actually good for a person. However, prolonged stress is not healthy and can lead to serious problems such as headaches, decreased/increased appetite, and trouble sleeping. In addition, stress greatly weakens one’s immune system making a person more susceptible to disease. Stress also affects one’s relationships, as well as his/her performance.(webmd.com))
I believe that everyone needs stress to a certain degree in their lives. What's important is that you don't let stress take control of your life. Stress is like an internal alarm that tells us that we need to do something or get something done. I've read a lot of articles about stress for school and they have talked about "good" stress and "bad" stress. Good stress is the type of stress that allows you to be in control while bad stress is the type of stress that leads to emotional breakdowns. At times, stress can serve as an energy booster, allowing us to do what we need to get done. The stress response is an evolutionary mechanism that allowed our ancestors to survive. So I believe that stress can be a good thing.

Another example where some stress could be helpful for security reasons. For instance, when driving, one must feel some sort of stress in order to be alert for other cars. Therefore, although too much stress can be harmful, a certain amount could be good.
ReplyDeleteStress is a natural instinct. It lets us know when we are in danger or when something is wrong. However, most people over-think and over-stress about minute details. In general, if the world was less stressed, everybody would be happier. Of course, people still need to stress sometimes because that is something that comes with responsibility.
